In November 2024, the World Bank’s Tokyo office welcomed a delegation from the government of Poland and a group of economists from the World Bank in Europe and Central Asia to learn about the long-term care (LTC) system and related innovations in Japan. The objectives of the study visit were to observe and learn about the LTC experience in Japan—including financing, quality control, care integration between health and social sectors, new technologies, HR capacity building, and so on—and to build delegates’ overall capacity to assist in implementing LTC in Poland. JCIE was invited to the knowledge-sharing event together with other experts from this field, and JCIE’s Momoko Abe, a member of the team that organizes the Healthy Aging Prize for Asian Innovation (HAPI), introduced two outstanding cases of local municipalities integrating technology into the community-based integrated system from the cities of Komagane (Nagano Prefecture), a 2020 HAPI Grand Prize Winner, and Iruma (Saitama Prefecture), including OrangeLinks a 2022 HAPI Grand Prize Winner.
