JCIE’s Momoko Abe, a member of the team that organizes the Healthy Aging Prize for Asian Innovation (HAPI), participated in a meeting organized by the Social Development Division of UNESCAP, in partnership with the China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC) that aimed to bridge the digital divide for older persons across the region. As the organizers noted, countries across the Asia-Pacific region are experiencing rapid population aging at a time when the world is also undergoing a digital transformation. For that reason, enhancing digital literacy among older persons, especially older women, has become a critical need for fostering social inclusion and ensuring access to essential digital services. The meeting convened stakeholders from governments, civil society organizations, academia, and international organizations to share good practices, develop effective training materials and enhance policy frameworks and tools to support digital literacy for older persons. Ms. Abe offered her thoughts and some Japan-based examples based on her work with HAPI, and introduced the innovative cases databases found on this site.
