On the sidelines of the Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2026 (PMAC 2026), JCIE co-organized a meeting on the Silver Economy which showcased policy examples, innovations, and best practices from across Asia that support the four pillars of work and income security, equitable access to products and services, age-friendly environments, and action against ageism. The session explored how innovations—from technology to community-based programs—enhance participation, independence, and the wellbeing of older adults. The session addressed critical challenges in ensuring the benefits of the silver economy reach all segments of society.
The event was jointly organized by JCIE; the National Health Commission Office (NHCO), Thailand; the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC); the Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR); Mahidol University; and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The event featured several presentations from past HAPI winners, including Mr. Edren M. Llanillo, Founder and Executive Director, Padyarescue Inc., who discussed his intergenerational Go-Bike project which received a 4th HAPI Grand Prize. It also included Mr. Yasuhisa Suganuma, Member, Shizuoka Prefectural Assembly, who presented on work he had previously carried out to support a program with Hatachi Industry focused on health promotion for older Thai adults, through a Self-Sustained Movement Program (SSM), which was also recognized with a HAPI Grand Prize in 2021. You can learn more about the discussions on the NHCO website.
